Efficiency redefined - MINDA implements major project at Bürstadt Furniture

With over 3,000 m² of conveyor technology, 21 transfer cars and the intelligent material flow system, production at Bürstadt Furniture has been fundamentally modernized. Fully automatic stack tracking, elimination of forklift trucks and a seamless IT integration ensure maximum transparency and double production capacity. The entire system was installed without interrupting ongoing production operations. A project that shows how technical partnership works at eye level.

Customized intralogistics for thousands of pieces of furniture every day

Bürstadt Furniture GmbH is one of the leading manufacturers of take-away furniture in Europe. Several thousand cupboards, from wardrobes to kitchen base cabinets, are produced every day in several production stages for well-known furniture stores. To handle this high throughput in an efficient and reliable way, the company relies on a fully automated intralogistics solution from MINDA.

Maximum efficiency with maximum flexibility

The aim of the project was to fully automate the internal material flow while maintaining a high flexibility for different furniture types, dimensions and colors. MINDA developed a customized conveyor system for this purpose, which networks the entire production process on a conveyor technology area of over 3,000 m².

21 transfer cars represent a central element of the system - four times as many as in other comparable MINDA projects. They transport stacks weighing up to 8 tons precisely and reliably between the individual processing stations. A total of over 120 interfaces to 24 processing machines were implemented.

The elimination of forklift trucks in the production area today ensures greater safety, order and efficiency. This new solution has almost doubled production capacity.

Conveyor technology in detail: Flexible and solid

Plastic chain conveyors are predominantly used, supplemented by turntables with right angle stations, which allow a flexible change of direction of the conveyor sections.Roller conveyors were used selectively. The modular technology allows a precise adaptation to the complex requirements of furniture production.

The transfer cars have sliding decks that can be flexibly separated or connected depending on the cutting edges. This means that several stacks can be transported at the same time and transferred to intermediate storage areas or machines specifically.

"MINDA does not offer a rigid system, but many flexible options for internal material transportation. This is how the perfect solution for us came about," Regina Roß emphasizes, Technical Office Bürstadt Furniture.

Production data is continuously recorded and visualized via operating panels. Continuous networking enables seamless monitoring and analysis of the entire production process. Automated handling reduces sources of error and significantly reduces the workload for operating personnel. The installation is fully integrated into the IT systems of Bürstadt  Furniture. Thus, it is always traceable to see where each stack is located - a decisive benefit for production planning and quality assurance.

The core of the solution is the MINDA MoveIT material flow system, which intelligently controls all conveyors and is networked with the customer network and well-known manufacturer systems.

Long-term partnership at eye level

MINDA has been a reliable partner of Bürstadt Furniture for more than seven years. The technical cooperation takes place on eye level - projects are worked out in detail together. The film about the project impressively documents this close partnership.
