08 CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER (CLT) - PLANTS Already in 2010, after an intensive development phase, our first cross-laminated timber plant with a TimberPress X 300 for an industrial cross-laminated timber production went into operation. In the meantime, more than 25 cross-laminated timber plants of various designs have proven themselves on the market worldwide. With our modules for mechanization and conveyor technology as well as our control technology, we adapt to existing buildings and plants. We also realize greenfield projects. We optimally match our plant planning to the desired production volume. In our projects realized so far, one, two or three cross-laminated timber presses with a total output of up to 50 boards/hour were included. The majority of our realized projects is designed for a flexible production - batch size 1 - meeting the corresponding requirements for the degree of automation and control technology. Batch size 1 for us means 100 % flexibility both in terms of CLT board dimensions and board structure. 12 CROSS-LAMINATED (CLT) - PRESSES With our cross-laminated timber presses (CLT presses) of the TimberPress X series, we offer the ideal press technology for the production of cross-laminated timber elements from crosswise glued solid wood layers. The solid wood layers can consist of joint-glued solid wood boards or loose lamellas/boards. Depending on the application, we use one of the following three series. With the TimberPress X 100 we press joint-glued solid wood boards into CLT press blanks, whereby the main press pressure is applied vertically. We use the version TimberPress X 100 pro if joint-glued solid wood boards have already been produced in the previous production step and if they also have window and/or door cut-outs. The TimberPress X 200 has a frontal or lateral hydraulic compression function in addition to the vertical main press pressure. Thus, the length or cross layers can consist of loose lamellas/panels and the process step "joint gluing / solid wood board production" is dropped for a part of the raw material. With the TimberPress X 300 we compress both length and cross layers before pressing high-quality CLT boards with the vertical main press pressure. Both the length and the cross layers consist of loose lamellas/panels. The process step "joint gluing / solid wood panel production" is thus completely dropped. As an option, all three series are also available as a high-speed version (HS). In the HS version, the opening and closing of the press as well as its feeding and unloading is done at a significantly higher speed. This enables the use of even faster PUR glues for shorter cycle times, and capacity increases of up to 30 % can be achieved. 15 GLULAM (GLT) – PLANTS We have been planning and supplying customized plants for the glulam production (GLT) worldwide for over 40 years. In addition to the mechanization and conveyor technology usual in the industry, our product portfolio includes a wide range of hydraulic GLT presses. Both the glulam presses and the conveyor technology for boards, lamellas and glulam beams are almost infinitely scalable. In the field of engineered wood construction, we thus realize plants for extremely large glulam beams of up to 50 m in length, but also highly efficient and highly automated production lines for straight standard glulam beams up to 18 m in length. Depending on the requirements, we plan our plant technology on a customer-specific basis for existing buildings as well as for greenfield projects. If desired, we can also integrate a wide variety of third-party machines into the overall concept. Our FlowMate higher-level production control technology is used particularly for flexible production systems for order-based production - batch size 1. It supplies the PLC controllers just-in-time with the necessary production data and ensures an efficient and continuous production. 21 GLULAM (GLT) - PRESSES With the different series, we offer economical and space-saving GLT press solutions for small, medium or large production capacities. Our technical solutions enable us to produce press blanks that are planed and cut to length with a minimum of waste. This reduces the loss of wood. The actual glulam press also includes stacking and unloading - either as a separate part of the plant or as an integral part of the press. The presses and the upstream and downstream plant components can be flexibly adapted to the desired maximum product length, width and height. It goes without saying that our automatic GLT presses have got a permanent pressure monitoring and control. In accordance with the respective customer requirements, our press systems can be equipped with an automatic documentation of various process parameters, such as press pressure, ambient temperature, air humidity, glue batches and quantities for quality management. 22 GLULAM PRESSES FOR CURVED BEAMS In addition to presses for standard glulam (barware), our extensive portfolio also includes presses for curved glulam beams with extremely large cross-sections and spans, as used in engineering timber construction. With the different series, we also offer the right solution for you. In the simplest version, the press bed is set, loaded, closed and emptied manually. If different curved beams are produced frequently, the semi-automatic press bed offers a perfect alternative. The press stands are automatically set according to the CAD data. This press series is also loaded, closed and emptied manually. MINDA also offers a fully automatic press bed for very low manpower requirements. This press series can be loaded and unloaded either manually or fully automatically. 26 WAREHOUSE TECHNOLOGY No matter what final product you manufacture, delivering on time always has top priority. To achieve this, the product to be delivered must be available at the time of delivery - either just-in-time from production or from a finished goods warehouse. Intermediate or finished goods warehouses decouple processes and thus increase the availability and efficiency of your entire system. MINDA offers individual solutions for different tasks depending on the requirements. No matter whether it is solid structural timber, GLT or CLT - area warehouses can be used almost everywhere: Whether as a finished goods warehouse in the form of a stake warehouse for solid structural timber or glulam or, for example, as an intermediate warehouse for individual cross laminated timber layers or complete CLT elements. The product to be stored only determines the design of the load handling equipment. In addition to area storage systems, MINDA also offers high-bay storage systems. They can be integrated into a new building or into an existing one. Our product portfolio comprises both stationary and mobile storage and retrieval units - the optimum solution for every application in the field of glued engineered timber products. This allows a production and commissioning of orders with batch size 1 in an efficient and fully automatic way. 29 MECHANIZATION – CONVEYOR TECHNOLOGY We are the specialists for fully automatic material transport for CLT, GLT and solid structural timber systems. From the manipulation of dried lumber stacks to board transport or the transport of intermediate products and finished goods, our modular transport system includes all components for your individual plant. We transport stacks and boards up to a length of 6.30 m just as reliably as lamellas up to a length of 50 m or stacks with a weight up to 17,000 kg. In the finished goods sector, we provide solutions for small, customized components as well as for large CLT boards up to a width of 6 m and a length of 20 m. 30 PRODUCTION CONTROL TECHNOLOGY MCS The heart of every modern GLT or CLT plant is the production control technology. That's why MINDA has been developing it in-house for over 30 years.
